Communication and Bioethics of End-of-Life Care



 This is a CME activity to introduce important topics relevant to palliative care and end-of-life care. The learner should be able to recognize the scope of need for palliative care for patients with severe illness as well as describe the challenges that these patients face. The learner will be introduced to goals of care communication and how it relates to severe illness while effectively documenting patient wishes through the New Jersey Practitioner’s Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment (POLST). Finally, the learner will be introduced to some of the bioethical challenges faced by patients at the end of life. This CME activity satisfies the NJ CME requirement for 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits,TM pursuant to P.L. 2011, c. 145 (C.45:9-7.7) in programs or topics related to end-of-life care.

 Intended Audience: The intended audience for this conference includes primary care physicians and all specialists at Cooper University Health Care and CMSRU faculty. Residents, fellows, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, and other allied health professionals with an educational need or interest in this topic may also attend.
