Risks and Myths of Cancer in African American and Hispanic Communities
Did you know:
- African American men are 63% more likely to develop prostate cancer than white men.
- African American women have a 4% lower risk of breast cancer than white women, yet higher death rates for breast and several other cancer sites.
- Hispanic men and women have a higher incidence rate of developing stomach, cervix, liver, and gallbladder cancers as well as acute lymphocytic leukemia.
- Hispanic women are more likely to be diagnosed with breast tumors that are more difficult to treat and lead to high death rates.
- The incidence rate for stomach cancer in Hispanic men is 70% higher than that among non-Hispanic white men, and among Hispanic women, the rate is more than double that of white women.
